Gorlacon wants revenge, but sends such a small group for it that it is defeated by 3 Roman soldiers, one of whom is hurt.But Etain was supposed to have joined the Roman forces for quite some time to gain Agricola’s trust. The witch knows Etain, meaning she must have known her before she was thrown out of the community.Quintus Dias makes a plan to go to South, when the Picts expect them to go to North, because they “cannot outrun them, only outsmart them”.How, of all, a cook survives that meteor-shower of flaming, rolling hay-balls There is no explanation or back-story to how our motley crew came to be.Why are Pict farmers shown all muscly, husky and broad, while Roman soldiers as measly slaughter-livestock? If anything, it should be the opposite.How could Agricola trust a Pict? My first instinct was – “Come on, she is going to betray”.Why is Etain so perceptive? She has been shown to have some kind of supernatural power to follow her prey as a she-wolf?.While the cinematography is great, which often is with lush forests and ice, but the plot is brittle. The story line is very weak and there are many holes. So, he returns to a witch, who had helped him flee Etain and lives happily ever – after. He is betrayed by Agricola, who decides to suppress the information on IXth’s failure to save his own skin. The ending is very un-surprising, Etain dies and so does the rest of the crew except our Centurion. So Etain swears a blood-oath to kill the absconders. Thax, the biggest fool of the group kills Gorlacon’s son. Now, a small motley crew of people join to first free Virilus, but failing that, just wanting to return to the homeland. He joins Virilus, but is ambushed by the Picts because Etain was a double-agent. At the same time, a Centurion named Quintus Dias runs away from the Pictish captivity. This falls on the head of General Titus Flavius Virilus, the commander of IXth Legion.Īgricola gives them a supposedly ex-Pict Etain, who is supposed to lead them to face Gorlacon. On the other hand, Roman governor of Britannia Gnaeus Julius Agricola who wants to win some accolades and return to Rome, even at the cost of some soldiers’ lives. ![]() They are led by Pict king Gorlacon, farmer-turned-soldier, who has united the northern tribes. Picts, being familiar with territory and light on ammunition, wage a guerilla warfare against the Romans. History Enthusiasts might know that Picts were an actual warrior tribe in present day Scotland, at the same time as the disappearance of the IXth Legion. The plot revolves around the struggle between the Picts and the Roman Empire. The highest rank is that of the Primus pilus (First File), who are commanding centurion of the first century, first cohort and the senior-most centurion of the entire legion. ![]() The Centurions are actually officer-grade ranks, which are in command of cohorts, comprising roughly 500 soldiers. All the Senior Officers are in command of the Legions or its sub-units, the highest rank being Legatus Augusti pro praetore (Imperial Legate). The largest military unit is Legion, which is roughly equivalent to present day Brigades, made up of almost 5000 infantry and 300 cavalry. This is the ranking structure of Roman Military. ![]()
